1. NBC’s Brian Williams recants Iraq attack story
It was a dramatic account from the early stage of the Iraq War, one that placed NBC News anchor Brian Williams aboard a U.S. military helicopter that had drawn enemy fire. It was told repeatedly by Williams and NBC.
And it wasn’t true.
2. Curtis Jones wants Philly bars and restaurants to install exterior cameras
Responding to the death of Shane Montgomery – who drowned in the Schuylkill after leaving a Manayunk bar on Thanksgiving, Philadelphia City Councilman Curtis Jones wants to require every business that serves alcohol to install exterior cameras.
3. Corrupt cop gets 17-plus years in prison
As corrupt police officers go, Jonathan Garcia was more brazen than most.
Less than two years after joining the force, he was making illegal traffic stops and stealing cash seized from drug dealers. He sold heroin, often in uniform and in broad daylight, across the street from the 17th District station in South Philadelphia.
4. Wolf names two for Supreme Court
Gov. Wolf on Wednesday tapped a bipartisan duo to fill vacancies on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Wolf said he will nominate Ken Gormley, dean and professor at Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, and Thomas Kistler, president judge of the Centre County Court of Common Pleas.
5. A $35 million attempt to add more charter schools
In an effort to enroll 15,000 more students in new charter schools, the nonprofit Philadelphia School Partnership has offered up to $35 million to the city school system.
