Now that 2021 is over we’re strong enough for 2022
This year, as COVID killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, thousands more died from gun violence in cities all over the country. In Philadelphia, there were 557 murders as of December 29th, and there will be more before the New Year begins.
But 2022 will be better than this. Even as COVID rages and bullets fly, I know the New Year will be better, if only because we are stronger. This year we survived wildfires and liars, tornadoes and gunfire, so you know there’s not a lot we haven’t seen.
If Karen attacks? We’ve seen that. If the highway turns into a river? Seen that one, too. Windstorms, snowstorms, ice storms, crap storms. We’ve seen it all, and now we’re ready to turn the page. We’re ready to see what 2022 will bring.
For me, it will bring my 11th book, Ten Lives Ten Demands … a Black Activist’s Blueprint for Racial Justice. It will bring another chance for me to love my beautiful wife, to watch my children achieve, to seek joy from every moment, and I’m grateful.
In this New Year, whatever your dreams may be, chase them with all you’ve got. And when you catch them, hold on just tight enough to let them go, because there could be something bigger than your wildest dreams, better than your biggest vision, larger than your most ambitious goal.
