Blacks are the backbone of the Democratic party. It’s time we reaped the benefits

I watched the election results last night and I realized—people are tired. We’re tired of promises, tired of smiles, and tired of nothing changing.

That’s why a Republican won the governor’s race in Virginia, and it’s why we might wake up to a Republican governor in New Jersey. It’s not that we want Trump supporters sitting in governor’s seats and making decisions that hurt Black people. No, we’re tired of electing Democrats only to watch y’all do nothing that actually helps Black people.

We vote for y’all because we need help. Help with police brutality. Help with voting rights. Help with loan discrimination, school discrimination, and job discrimination. We vote for y’all because we need change.

But when we give you the presidency and majorities in both houses of congress, and our priorities still come last, we’re not so quick to run out and vote for you. We’re not so quick to buy your excuses. We’re not so quick to support your policies. Because we already know what it’s like to live under racism. So, if the racists win, guess what—we’re gonna be all right. But the Democratic party will not.

NBC got some data from the California recall election, and they found that turnout among voters under 30 dropped by nearly half from the last big election.

If that happens across the country—and young people don’t vote because they see through the foolishness, and Black folks don’t vote because we tired of your games, Democrats lose. So, Democrats … do yourselves a favor. Stop giving us washed up candidates like Terry McAuliffe in Virginia, and guys who haven’t done much like Phil Murphy in New Jersey.

Give us candidates who shake things up, who make things work, who get stuff done. Your promises aren’t enough anymore. We need actual change.

I’m a huge Jalen Hurts fan, but this loss is on him. I know Scott fumbled and Reagor dropped that last pass, but you can’t throw 3 interceptions in a game. Hopefully he learns from this and stops forcing passes into coverage. #frustrating
The acquittal of #KyleRittenhouse opens the door for white vigilantes to kill anyone they want to. It also puts a spotlight on the judge’s biased actions during the trial.
God is so good. Two years ago today we founded @ManUpPHL with a citywide meeting on gun violence. Tonight we celebrate that with a dinner and strategy session with mentors and mentees who are working together to change lives. We are fully funded, we have committed volunteers, and we have a Listening to the Streets initiative that gets brothers off the streets and into jobs. This week we release our first white paper based on that program. We work to end gun violence one life at a time. Can’t wait to see what the next two years brings!

The look on this border agent’s face as he grabs this #Haitian migrant at the border says it all. I am so hurt to see Black people treated this way. It looks like a scene out of #Roots.
